There was no set up other than taking it out of the box. I used my own plug but they supplied the USB cord. If you push the button on the top once you hear a beep and the light turns green. You get an 18 min cycle. If you push the button twice you hear two beeps, the light flashes twice and you get a 30 min cycle. My phone that you see in the picture is an iPhone Pro, not a Max but there is plenty of room for a max. I have cleaned a small wallet, then threw in 5 credit cards.
